New Books, Quilts, Garden

The days are shorter, the air cooler. While some flowers still flourish, others are fading. The apples have a blush, and we eagerly await their ripening. There are more apples on the trees than we have ever seen!

New galleys on the shelf to read include

  • Reading Genesis by Marilynne Robinson
  • On the Tobacco Coast by Christopher Tilghman
  • The Book of More Delights by Ross Gay
  • Live to See the Day: Coming of Age in American Poverty by Nikhil Goyal; It is about young people in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, where we lived in 1979-80.

A LibraryThing win coming in the mail is

  • What We Remember Will Be Saved: A Story of Refugees and the Things They Carry by Stephanie Saldana

Book mail this week was Love in a Time of Hate: Art and Passion in the Shadow of War by Florian Illies from Riverside Books. This history is about Jean-Paul Sarte, Simone de Beauvoir, Vladimir Nabokov, Hannah Arendt, Picasso, Anais Nin, and more!

I finished 17 books this month! Some of my favorite reads this year are in this group.

I have been playing with a vintage quilt. The borders were very yellow, so I cut them off and rebound the quilt. I have been sewing doilies in the centers of the Double Wedding Ring blocks. Based on the fabrics, I believe this was a kit quilt. It was hand pieced and hand quilted.

Our son came over and we spent hours in the basement opening boxes we have had in storage since he left home for college! We sorted and created piles to toss, to rehome, and to save. It was quite a trip down memory lane, reminding us of how quickly life passes. Elementary school art work and college notes and papers, hundreds of drawings, and miscellaneous treasures.

I have been selling Matchbox cars and role playing game books, and setting some books aside for the library sale, and taking others to Little Free Library boxes in town. THEN we still have seven boxes of books to check for value and determine new homes for them! I have a box to donate to the community center White Elephant sale.

And we only went through a part of the boxes in the basement…

This ‘downsizing’ is a whopper of a job.

Stay safe.

Find your bliss.
